Cat® COMPACT technologies combine advanced measurement and guidance capabilities to help you meet compaction targets with greater consistency, in less time, and at a lower cost.
WHAT IS CAT COMPACT?
Cat COMPACT technologies include hardware components such as sensors plus software that monitor compaction progress.
Intelligent Compaction provides a relative measurement of material stiffness during the compaction process rather than an absolute reading of Compaction Values (e.g., density).
In-cab displays show when compaction has met target values.
Optional GPS mapping allows operators to see how many passes they have made over which areas.
Available from the factory on select new Cat Asphalt and Soil Compactors, or as dealer-installed or retrofit systems on a wide range of equipment from other manufacturers.
WHAT DOES IT DO FOR ME?
Cat COMPACT technologies provide on-the-go compaction measurement, documentation and reporting for asphalt and soil compaction applications. Both can be monitored using optional mapping technology.
COMPACT Technologies for Asphalt Compactors give operators instant feedback to help them achieve uniform results with the highest level of quality and maximum efficiency.
Three measurement options are available to meet your job needs:
Temperature Indication helps operators monitor and work in the proper temperature range for efficient compaction.
Compaction Meter Value (CMV) is an accelerometer-based system that displays a composite stiffness value of the asphalt layer, base layer and sub-base materials.
Auto-Adjustable Compaction (AAC) automatically regulates amplitude based on feedback from an onboard accelerometer, ensuring the highest compaction energy is used to achieve faster results, while eliminating over-compaction and preserving layer quality.
COMPACT Technologies for Soil Compactors give operators instant feedback to help them achieve uniform results with maximum efficiency. Plus, they help to identify hidden soil problems that can affect compaction quality.
Two measurement options are available to meet your job needs:
Compaction Meter Value (CMV) is an accelerometer-based system that displays a compaction value that indicates compaction quality. CMV is for smooth drum machines only and works well in granular applications and thick lifts.
Machine Drive Power (MDP) is a Cat exclusive technology that measures rolling resistance—with the vibratory system on or off—and correlates it with soil stiffness. MDP is for smooth and padfoot drums and works well in both cohesive and granular soils.
Compliance Reporting employs an optional 3D mapping system that maps measurements to the precise location the machine has covered.
Provides a real-time view of progress and documentation of compaction uniformity.
For Soil – Mapping consists of MDP, CMV, and machine pass-count coverage.
For Asphalt – Mapping consists of CMV, temperature mapping, and machine pass-count coverage.
Accumulated data can be accessed via VisionLink® for analysis or documentation of compaction.
HOW DO I PUT COMPACT TECHNOLOGIES TO WORK?
Fully integrated Cat COMPACT technologies are available as factory attachments on new Cat equipment. Some technologies are retrofittable to select Cat machines.
WHAT CAT COMPACT TECHNOLOGIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR MY MACHINES?
For Asphalt Compactors
Temperature Indicate for Asphalt
Measures mat temperatures in real time to show operators where they can work productively and where to avoid tender zones that need more time to cool.
For select Cat Vibratory Asphalt Compactors.
Auto-Adjustable Compaction (AAC)
Automatically regulates amplitude based on feedback from an onboard accelerometer, ensuring the highest compaction energy is used to achieve faster results while eliminating over-compaction and preserving layer quality.
For Cat CB10 and CD10 Vibratory Asphalt Compactors.
CMV Indicate for Asphalt
Displays a composite stiffness value of the asphalt layer, base layer, and sub-base materials.
For Soil Compactors
CMV Indicate for Soil
Indicates compaction progress for smooth drum machines only.
Works well in granular applications and thick lifts.
For Cat B-Series Vibratory Soil Compactors.
MDP Indicate for Soil
Machine Drive Power (MDP) technology measures rolling resistance and correlates it with soil stiffness, thereby indicating compaction progress.
MDP works in both cohesive and granular soils.
For Cat B-Series Vibratory Soil Compactors and K-Series Four-Drum Soil Compactors.
GPS Mapping for Soil & Asphalt
Optional 3D mapping system maps measurements to the precise location the operator is working.
Provides a real-time view of progress and a record of compaction uniformity.
For Cat B-Series Vibratory Soil and select Cat Asphalt Compactors.
